Beauty takes time …

We’re talking skincare again today! I wasn’t planning to write this post until next week, but I have just seen a soap ad on tv for the millionth time and it has made me cringe to the point of writing a blog post on a Friday evening! First of all, how can someone possibly have such flawless skin? Secondly, nobody washes their face the way the models do in these ads.

Anyways, so the rule of thumb for good skin seems pretty simple:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Maintain a healthy diet
  • Exercise on a regular basis
  • Get plenty of fresh air
  • Remove your make up before sleeping
  • Get plenty of rest

Now here’s the problem with the above:

  • The only way I make it to 8 glasses per day is if the water that goes in my tea is included
  • I tend to fish out any greens to the side of the plate
  • Workouts turn me so red at the time, someone might fear I’m having a heart attack
  • I’d have to travel to winter destinations more often to achieve that
  • Depends on the scale of tiredness/laziness.
  • When am I supposed to rest when the image below sums up my day perfectly?

I’m all 3 in the anti-clockwise direction!
So, if you’re anything like me i.e. can’t get the basics right but still yearn for a good skin, then I may have discovered a cure for our breed. I’ll cut the chase and get to the point soon, but since I am writing this for you while I should be out partying on a Friday, you’ll have to bear with a few more stories before we get there. So be nice and keep reading ….

Friday magazine did a round up of the 7 best skincare products in their issue last weekend. While everything sounded amazing on their list, the one that stood out for me the most was the ‘Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Velvet Luminescence Moisturising Cream‘. There was no way I was going to remember all that, so I just drew a big circle around it (don’t you just love doing that?) and neatly tore the page out of the magazine to take to Sephora with me the same evening. After asking the sales lady (bless her) for the hundredth time if it was ok to use it on sensitive skin (that’s my second name), I finally made the purchase and said a silent prayer as I knew my husband had probably just received an sms detailing how much I had just spent on the credit card. Not that he’d have an issue with it, but just that I feel horribly guilty when I spend so much in a make up store! (I never felt that way when I used to earn on my own btw. Perhaps another post for another day?). Once I got over the guilt, I had an extra skip in my step on the way home and you would too because this is how it was described in the magazine ….

With one application, your skin looks as luminous as the top of water when the sun shines on it.

Note: I have a smirk on my face right now, coz you still probably have no idea whether I’m talking in favour or against the product at the mo …. Keep reading, it’s still Friday evening here!

I gave myself a week before reaching the conclusion of whether the purchase was worth it or not ….

Day 1: The cream smells amazing after applying to the face. It gives that wonderful soft feeling you get right after a nice facial too. I had applied it just before going to sleep. I had a pretty restless night as I kept waking up every few hours curious to see if my face was sparkling yet. When I did manage to fall asleep, I was woken up early the next morning, as dunno about the skin but my eyes were definitely sparkling (read burning). Could be just a one-off, so am gonna proceed with day 2 ….

Day 2: This time I woke up expecting to see no result. But hello there …. is that a tiny bit of glow staring right back at me? *Unbelievable* I decide to smudge some cream on during the daytime too. I slept better that night and no burning eyes the next morning either. So it was a one-off. Excitement levels are sky-high at this point ….

Day 3: Have a night out planned today, which means time to wear some make up. The hydrating cream worked perfectly as the make up base and helped keep the skin look hydrated through the duration of the evening. I’m so happy I might even cry. But then dunno how the cream reacts to tears so think will stay calm (That was so lame, sorry!).

Day 4: Didn’t get my 8 hours of sleep last night and woke up feeling like crap. I had forgotten about the cream craze entirely, as all I really wanted was a cup of tea at that point. But when I look in the mirror, I kid you not, I was actually looking fresh as if I’d been sleeping for an entire day!

Ok, you get my drift by now, so am not going to walk you through the next 3 days and get straight to the verdict now.

Verdict: Happy to report, this Givenchy moisturising cream actually does do all that it claims (either that or I have been doing something horribly right all of a sudden). It won’t give you amazing skin (a lot more factors play a role to help achieve that) but it does make you look fresh with a hint of glow. The skin absorbs the cream quite easily so it doesn’t remain greasy either. Works pretty well with make up too. It has been money well spent. Oh, I never mentioned the cost yet, did I? Here are the product details in a nut shell:

Name: Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Velvet Luminescence Moisturising Cream
Price: AED 285

Should you buy it? Absolutely! Go for it ..  It has been the best shortcut to fresh and healthy looking skin I have ever experienced.

In fact, I’m also kinda wondering what the result would be like if I actually did start doing some of the basics mentioned up there regularly. The cream has obviously had a positive effect on the way I think as well. Good skin really does build up your confidence, doesn’t it? I’m so thrilled right now, I might even go wash my face like those models in the soap ad!

If you liked today’s post then don’t forget to ‘like’ and ‘comment’. I would love to hear what your skincare routine includes?

Until the next post, ‘Lets Keep it Strictly Lighthearted!

  1. Hydra sparkling added to the cart. I follow every rule for good skin (except daily exercise and fresh air) yet not the expected glow. Wish they introduce a cream that help retrieve our baby skin back. 😦

  2. Glad to hear of a product that actually does what it says.
Not that I have a facial routine, but how much does that equate to in british sterling?
I haven’t used soap on my face for decades, drink plenty of tea for hydration and the occasional pint of water, don’t wear makeup, get plenty of exercise (usually) walking the dog, eat a good diet and sleep pretty well. Skin not bad for 61, but could do with a polish.

  3. I was so excited to see this, as I am obsessed ( I am sure temporarily) with skin care these days. Even the America sounds so attractive lol, but unfortunately saphoras in US do not carry this 😦

    1. Awww me too! Then I assume I’d fall asleep early coz I’m so tired, and then voila! I turn from pigeon to owl! 🤦‍♀️

Thanks so much for your positive feedback as well. I’m glad my one-liners work on the pout! 😁

  4. I have a bad habit of sometimes not removing my make up before sleeping even if I know I’m going to regret it the next day after. Aaaahh sometimes it’s just too hard to do when you’re so drained from that day’s happenings!
