This is it everyone … my last post of the year! Sounds so dramatic right? Well, that’s what December is like for most of us as we allow ourselves to go crazy with the new year resolutions. Let me guess … we’re all going to become better people, eat healthy, exercise more, meet our relatives more often, switch jobs, travel more and many such false promises. Why false? Coz you and I both know we’re gonna follow it religiously for 7 days tops until we forget about it entirely and allow the same cycle to repeat year after year.
December for me is more about reflecting on the year that has flown by. Doing so not only helps me feel more accomplished but also gives a head start to the following year.
Socially ….
2017 has been a great year for the blog. I finally succeeded in posting more regularly and realised how much of a difference it made in building a steady relationship with the readers. Although every post I write comes straight from the heart, there was something extra-special about ‘Lets Spill the Beans‘. This is the one where I spoke about my relationship with my sister. I almost didn’t publish this one as it felt too personal to share, but I did anyway. I was overwhelmed with the response as many of you wrote back to me saying how much you could relate to it. It goes to show if you believe in it, then you can achieve it. A huge thank you to all of you once again for the feedback. It’s always good to know if I’m on the right track or not.
Mentally …
My husband and I love going on holiday. However, we were not able to be that adventurous this year due to personal commitments. The choices were two – either to sulk over it and make myself miserable or to be more sporting and make the most of the situation. So this year, I decided to become a tourist in my own city of Dubai. Doing so has been tremendous fun as I re-discovered all the hidden gems and felt immensely proud of it as it also opened new doors of opportunity for me. Therefore, if you find yourself in a similar situation, then I strongly suggest you do the same and be prepared to view the city you thought you knew in a different light and fall in love with it all over again.
Spiritually …
There are two things I avoid talking about – politics and religion. No reason in particular other than there is zero point in getting into pointless heated debates over what is right or wrong. Everyone has their own belief and are entitled to their own opinions. Let’s just respect that. But since today’s post is the highlight of my year, then I have to mention I performed ‘Hajj‘ (pilgrimage) with my husband this year. It was something we had thought about for a long time and finally embarked on the memorable spiritual journey together. I don’t mean to preach, but ‘soul cleansing’ plays an important role in one’s life. All it takes is a few minutes every day, and soon you find yourself feeling lighter and distancing yourself from negativity. You feel so rejuvenated!
Melodically …
Did you really think I would write about 2017 and not mention Ed Sheeran? Lol, I had no intention to either but my niece insisted I’d be lying if I didn’t as it had an impact! :D. In case you’re one of the few 0.1% who has not heard me go on and on about it, you should read my ‘Ed Sheeran in Dubai‘ blog post. By the way, something awesome did come out of that concert. But since that will probably happen in 2018, I should keep my lips sealed for now.
This is it then guys! Hope all of you have fantastic celebrations in store for tonight. Coz ready or not, here comes 2018 … bring it on!
So long 2017! You’re soon about to become a memory as 5,4,3,2,1 …. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Woohoooo …
Until the next post, Let’s Keep it Strictly Lighthearted!
Lovely Post! Happy New Year 💚
heres to a brilliant 2018 for you!
